Psychedelics, Plant Medicine & the Path of Integration

As plant medicine becomes more and more popular, I feel called to briefly share my personal experience with it. While I’m not here to advocate or advise, I do want to offer a glimpse into what these journeys have been like for me—how they supported my process, what they revealed, and also where caution is absolutely necessary.

For most of my life, I had little interest in drugs. Aside from a few occasional puffs of weed in my late teens, that world never interested me. It wasn’t rebellion or escape I was seeking—it was something deeper: a way out of suffering, a path toward understanding and peace. But what that meant would remain unclear for sometime.

Years later, when Ayahuasca entered my awareness—it felt like an invitation into depth. I ended up sitting in four ceremonies, each one offering profound insights and stirring deep emotions. I didn’t stay in that egoless state, but I glimpsed something that stayed with me and slowly integrated over time.

Afterward, I continued my exploration with magic truffles. They became a gentler, more frequent ally; helping me uncover and release what was already ready to be seen. Each journey was different, but the most important thing they taught me was this: it’s not about escape. It’s about meeting whatever is within.

A word of care:
While my overall experience has been very positive, these substances are not to be taken lightly. They can be destabilising and even harmful if approached without the right mindset, intention, or support. When people try to use them to run from discomfort rather than face it, that’s when the trip can turn dark. But when we’re willing to feel—fully, honestly—what arises, even the most painful parts can pass through with grace. Having a safe space, trustworthy supervision, and the capacity to stay with your emotions is essential.

Maybe in a future post, I’ll go into some of the specific experiences in more detail if that feels relevant. For now, this is a glimpse; a reflection on the role these medicines have played on my path and how they’ve supported a deeper unfolding.
